Gorkha Ward Chair quits politics, leaves for Germany
Lama, who was elected in the 2079 local elections from the CPN (Maoist Centre), shared his decision through social media before heading abroad.
KATHMANDU: Saroj Lama, Ward Chairperson of Chumanubri Rural Municipality-6 in Gorkha, has left for Germany in search of employment, formally announcing his retirement from politics.
Lama, who was elected in the 2079 local elections from the CPN (Maoist Centre), shared his decision through social media before heading abroad.
In his farewell note, Lama expressed frustration that despite working honestly during his tenure, he neither received recognition nor personal satisfaction.
“I tried my best to serve with honesty and fairness, but no matter how much I did, I never received credit. I never felt fulfilled by the work I carried out. Therefore, I have decided to permanently bid farewell to politics and restart my life from zero—even if that means going abroad,” he wrote.
Before leaving, Lama entrusted his responsibilities to ward member Thinle Ghyamcho Lama as acting chairperson.
Chief Administrative Officer of the rural municipality, Manoj Lamichhane, confirmed Lama’s departure, adding, “He has not submitted a formal resignation letter yet, but we’ve been informed he does not plan to return. If that is the case, a resignation letter may come later.”
The departure of a young leader—who once earned public trust to lead local government—underscores the growing disillusionment of Nepal’s youth with politics and raises serious questions about their role and expectations in the country’s governance.
