KATHMAN DU: The Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) is gearing up to present Krishna Bahadur Mahara, former speaker and vice-chair of CPN (Maoist Centre), before the Kathmandu District Court on Friday.

Mahara, who has been implicated in a gold smuggling case, has been under police custody since his apprehension in Bhairahawa.

Previously, the Kathmandu District Court had sanctioned a four-day remand of Mahara to facilitate ongoing investigations.

However, his medical condition prompted authorities to instruct the CIB to allow Mahara to remain hospitalized, resulting in his admission to Norvic Hospital.

Despite his hospitalization, Mahara provided a statement at the public prosecutor’s office, maintaining his innocence in the gold smuggling allegations.

As preparations for his court appearance continue, the case has garnered significant attention, awaiting further developments in the legal proceedings.
