KATHMANDU: Gold and silver prices in Nepal surged to record highs on Wednesday, reflecting strong movements in international markets and sparking a wave of activity in the local precious metals market.

According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Traders’ Association, the price of pure gold (chhapawal) rose significantly to Rs 318,800 per tola, marking an increase of Rs 9,500 from Tuesday’s rate of Rs 309,300 per tola.

Similarly, the price of 10 grams of gold climbed to Rs 273,320.

The sustained upward trend in gold prices brought them close to the psychological milestone of Rs 919,000 per 100 grams, creating a notable stir in the market.

Silver also set a historic high, with its price reaching Rs 7,300 per tola, up Rs 430 from Tuesday’s Rs 6,870 per tola.

Traders and analysts attribute the unprecedented rise in Nepal’s gold and silver prices to global market volatility and changes in key economic indicators, which have had a direct impact on local prices.

The association confirmed that the Wednesday rates represent the highest in the history of Nepal’s gold and silver trade.
