Gold goes missing after woman’s death in Biratnagar hospital

KATHMANDU: A serious allegation has surfaced at Green Cross Hospital in Biratnagar after a woman’s gold earring reportedly went missing following her death.
The deceased, 40-year-old Sabina Danuwar from Triyuga Municipality–7, Udayapur, had been admitted for treatment.
According to her family, the gold earring weighing around one tola disappeared during the post-mortem handling.
Relatives claim the hospital initially denied the incident, but suspicion grew after video footage and CCTV recordings showed the gold still present earlier and revealed questionable activity during the procedure.
The situation escalated into tension at the hospital premises, prompting police intervention.
Following discussions, the hospital administration agreed to investigate the matter and provided compensation equivalent to the gold’s value to the family.
Hospital operator Krishna Khawas said he was unaware of the incident, while Morang Police Chief Kabit Katwal confirmed that a serious investigation is ongoing.
The incident has sparked public outrage, raising concerns over security and ethics in healthcare institutions.
