Gokarneshwor Municipality, KMC sign healthcare treatment deal

KATHMANDU: Gokarneshwar Municipality and Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) Public Limited have signed an agreement aimed at providing discounted healthcare services to the municipality’s permanent residents.

The agreement was signed by Chief Administrative Officer of Gokarneshwar Municipality, Yam Narayan Gauli, and Chief Administrative Officer of KMC, Narayan Prasad Dahal, in the presence of Mayor Deepak Kumar Risal and Dr. Sunil Sharma, whose initiative facilitated the deal.

The agreement will come into effect from Shrawan 1, 2083 BS and remain valid until the end of Ashar 2084 BS.

Under the arrangement, patients referred by the municipality to KMC will be eligible for benefits after fully utilizing government schemes such as the Poor Citizens Medical Treatment Program, health insurance, and other available support.

Residents of Gokarneshwar admitted to KMC’s Duwakot unit in general wards will receive a 50 percent discount on most treatment services, excluding medicines, medical consumables, equipment, EHS services, IUI/IVF, CTVS surgery, liver transplantation, neuro-intervention, cosmetic and aesthetic procedures, implants, and cabin charges.

At the Sinamangal branch, a 25 percent discount will be provided for similar categories of services.

The municipality will reimburse 50 percent of the total treatment cost for patients treated at Duwakot and 75 percent for those treated at Sinamangal.

The subsidy is capped at Rs 103,000 per person annually, with any amount beyond this to be borne by the patient.

Special provisions have been made for kidney transplant patients. Eligible residents will receive an additional Rs 309,000 from the municipality, allowing total assistance of up to Rs 412,000 per person.

KMC will also provide additional discounts of up to Rs 412,000 after the exhaustion of government insurance and other schemes; any remaining costs must be paid by patients themselves.

The agreement also includes support for blood supply arrangements, with the municipality facilitating referrals for blood services

The cost of laboratory testing per pint of blood will be reimbursed by the municipality at Rs 1,210.

To access the benefits, patients must submit an application along with citizenship certificate, voter ID, marriage registration certificate, birth registration for minors, and health insurance card where applicable.

Officials stated that the agreement is expected to improve access to quality healthcare and reduce the financial burden on residents of Gokarneshwar Municipality.
