KATHMANDU: Gandaki Province Chair of the Nepali Congress, Shukraraj Sharma, has called for the restoration of a constitutional monarchy in Nepal.

Speaking on behalf of Gandaki Province at the party’s special convention on Tuesday, Sharma emphasized the need for dialogue with all active political forces to create an environment conducive to reinstating constitutional monarchy.

Sharma also stressed the revival of Hindu religion with its traditional freedoms, alongside nationalism, democracy, and socialism.

He suggested that the Nepali Congress should adopt a new ideological path to address the country’s ongoing crisis.

Highlighting the urgency of safeguarding both the nation and the party, he said, “Saving the Nepali Congress is the first priority.

The search for solutions to the national crisis is expected to be led by the Congress. Therefore, let us elect leadership committed to reform and public service at this convention.”

Sharma urged the convention to strengthen the system so that even if the republic is embraced, reactionary forces cannot regain influence.

He called for thorough deliberations to fortify the party and the nation, and stressed the need for a clear roadmap to preserve nationalism, democracy, and traditional values.
