Freezing cold wipes out fish

KATHMANDU: Nawalparasi’s Bardghat Susta West has witnessed massive fish deaths due to extreme cold.

Krishna Bahadur Sahani of Palhinandan Rural Municipality-4, who has been running a commercial fish farm on six bighas for the past 10 years, said he was unable to save his fish as prolonged cold lowered the pond temperature.

“The fish even stopped eating due to the freezing conditions,” he added.

Similarly, Bhawani Shankar Yadav of Pratapur Rural Municipality-2 reported that 20 quintals of fish died on his 16-bigha farm due to the severe chill.
