KATHMANDU: Dr Mitra Pariyar, former Vice Chair of the Shram Sanskriti Party led by Dharan Sub-Metropolitan Mayor Harka Sampang, has officially joined the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN).

On Friday morning, Dr Pariyar formally entered the CPN after visiting the residence of party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in Hattiban.

Chair Dahal welcomed him into the party by draping a ceremonial shawl.

According to sources close to Prachanda, preparations are underway to appoint Dr Pariyar as a central committee member of the CPN with immediate effect.

Decisions on additional responsibilities will be made following internal party discussions.

Dr Pariyar had earlier been suspended from the post of vice chair of the Shram Sanskriti Party after a controversial speech delivered at a public gathering in Butwal on Mangsir 5.

Mayor Harka Sampang took disciplinary action, citing violations of party code of conduct and inappropriate remarks.

Following the incident and growing dissatisfaction, Dr Pariyar has now shifted his political path toward the CPN.
