Former ANFA Chair Sherpa arrested
Police have claimed that around Rs 87.8 million was embezzled from the academy.
KATHMANDU: Former Chair of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), Karma Chhiring Sherpa, has been arrested on charges of fraud and criminal breach of trust, Nepal Police confirmed.
According to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Sherpa was taken into custody on Friday from Ganesh Chowk in Budhanilkantha-6, Kathmandu, following a complaint filed by Ramchandra Bahala Shrestha, the authorised representative of Tungtung International Academy (TIA) Pvt. Ltd.
Investigators allege that Sherpa, while serving as the executive head of the institution with authority over single-handed bank account operations, misused his position to benefit himself and close associates, causing significant financial loss to the organisation.
Police have claimed that around Rs 87.8 million was embezzled from the academy.
Authorities further allege that Sherpa was involved in unauthorised transactions, including the transfer of school land in Dadhikot, Bhaktapur—covering more than 29 ropani—to a company linked to him, as well as irregular vehicle purchases.
Sherpa is also the president of the A-Division club Himal Sherpa Club and previously led ANFA during an earlier tenure, making him one of Nepal football’s most prominent administrators.
Police say further investigation is underway. Sherpa has not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
