KATHMANDU: During the ongoing voting at Bhrikutimandap for the election of the new leadership of CPN-UML, a surprising scene unfolded on Tuesday.

Popular folk singer and model Jyoti Magar was seen actively interacting with voters and seeking support amid the political hustle and the race between the two presidential candidates.

Magar, however, is not an official delegate of the UML convention.

Despite strict security arrangements at the polling site and restricted entry for those without passes, it remains unclear how she gained access to such a sensitive area.

While it is not evident which candidate she supports, she was observed mingling closely with delegates waiting in line to cast their votes.

Although voting began on Tuesday morning after a long technical delay, Magar’s presence at Bhrikutimandap is not new—she was seen around the convention site yesterday as well.

Today, she went beyond the periphery and reached the lines where delegates were queuing for voting.

With 80 voting machines in operation, delegates are taking 35–40 minutes to cast their votes. Amid this serious political environment, Magar’s presence added an unusual and colorful touch, which delegates found both surprising and entertaining.
