FNJ urges responsible social media use

KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has called on media professionals to use social media and other digital communication platforms responsibly.
Speaking at an event in Kathmandu on Monday, FNJ Chair Nirmala Sharma emphasized that sharing content on social media before completing proper reporting could negatively affect police investigations.
She urged journalists to exercise caution and responsibility in their digital activities.
Chair Sharma also highlighted that the Federation has launched a nationwide campaign to promote responsible use of social media among journalists. “It is not just during elections that journalists must be careful. Every journalist needs to act responsibly not only in their reporting but also on their personal digital platforms. In today’s digital era, content spreads rapidly, and posting incomplete investigative findings on social media can impact criminal investigations,” she said.
The Federation also stressed the importance of strengthening collaboration between journalists and law enforcement to support effective criminal investigations.
