KATHMANDU: Heavy rainfall since Wednesday afternoon has caused flooding in several rivers around the Kathmandu Valley.

Rivers including Bagmati, Dhobi Khola, Balkhu Khola, and Bishnumati have swollen, prompting the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology to urge caution as water levels are expected to rise further by Wednesday evening.

Experts attribute the extreme rainfall in recent years during this period to the impacts of climate change on the hydrological system.

Last year, floods on Ashoj 11-12 caused significant damage to life and property.
