KATHMANDU: The month of Asar is traditionally known as the time for rice transplantation in Nepal, often described as the season that “yields a murhi of grain from a single seed.”

During this period, farmers are deeply engaged in planting rice in their fields.

In many parts of the country, transplantation begins even before Asar officially starts.

In the Kathmandu Valley, farmers in the Kaath (low-lying) areas are already busy with the planting season as Asar approaches, with agricultural activity visibly intensifying across the fields.

While transplantation has not yet fully begun in the terraced fields of the Kaath area, farmers along the banks of the Bagmati River have already completed much of their work by pumping irrigation water from the river.

The scene reflects the early onset of monsoon farming activity, with rice planting underway in several pockets of the valley.
