KATHMANDU: Former Minister of Irrigation and Nepali Communist Party (NCP) leader Umesh Yadav has joined the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal.

The induction ceremony was held on Tuesday at the party’s central office in Bal Kumari, where JSP Nepal President Upendra Yadav welcomed Umesh Yadav by presenting him with a traditional scarf and party membership.

Umesh Yadav had been nominated by the NCP as a candidate for the federal parliament from Saptari Constituency No. 2.

However, he left the party and joined JSP Nepal.

Previously, Yadav was elected from Saptari Constituency No. 3 in the 2070 BS (2013) second Constituent Assembly elections but has not won any election since.

In the 2074 BS House of Representatives elections, he was defeated by Upendra Yadav in the same constituency.

In the 2079 BS elections, he contested for the provincial assembly from Saptari 2 (2) but lost to Mahesh Yadav of the Janamat Party.
