Ex-Army General Sharma to become Foreign Minister, sworn in today

KATHMANDU: Former Nepal Army Lieutenant General Balananda Sharma is set to become Nepal’s new Foreign Minister.

Following the recommendation of Prime Minister Sushila Karki, President Ram Chandra Paudel has decided to appoint Sharma to the position.

Sources indicate that his swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for today.

Sharma has a distinguished career in both the military and public service.

After joining the Maoist peace process, he served as the Coordinator of the Special Committee Secretariat responsible for army integration.

He has also held the role of Force Commander and served as the head of the National Defence University.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sharma was tasked with overseeing the COVID Crisis Management Centre (CCMC), demonstrating his leadership in crisis situations.
