Establishment leaders take faction’s proposal to Deuba
KATHMANDU: Negotiations between the Special Convention faction and the establishment wing of the Nepali Congress have been temporarily suspended in Lalitpur.
The discussions, aimed at reaching a consensus following the party’s Special Convention, saw leaders from the convention side—including Ramesh Lekhak and Balkrishna Khand—heading to party president Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Maharajgunj to brief him on their proposals.
Participating in the talks, Gururaj Ghimire said the establishment faction has shown a positive response to the proposals. “If conditions allow, a point of agreement could be reached,” he noted.
The Special Convention side presented key “bottom-line” demands, including: the party as a whole must adopt ownership of the policies and programs passed at the Special Convention; Deuba should step aside from active party responsibilities, as he had announced at the Central Working Committee meeting on 29 Ashoj; the acting party president, Purna Bahadur Khadka, should sign all nomination papers submitted to the Election Commission; and Deuba himself must declare that he will not contest in the upcoming elections.
