KATHMANDU: Marwan Attia starred as Egypt defeated Benin 3–1 in extra time to secure a place in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarterfinals.

Attia gave Egypt the lead in the 69th minute with a crucial goal, but Benin’s Jodel Dossou equalized just seven minutes from full time, sending the game into extra time.

In the first half of extra time, Yasser Ibrahim restored Egypt’s lead with a header, and in stoppage time, Mohamed Salah sealed the victory with a counter-attack goal.

With this win, Egypt advances to the quarterfinals, while Benin exits the tournament.

Nigeria secured a dominant 4–0 victory over Mozambique to advance to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarterfinals, powered by Ademola Lookman’s one goal and two assists and Victor Osimhen’s brace.

Nigeria imposed pressure from the start. Osimhen’s early strike in the second minute was ruled offside by VAR. The scoring finally opened in the 20th minute when Lookman converted a precise pass from Akor Adams.

Osimhen added the second goal in the 25th minute with a clinical finish off Adams’ cross. Just two minutes into the second half, Osimhen scored again, this time finishing Lookman’s low cross for his second of the match.

Nigeria completed the rout in the 75th minute when Lookman provided another perfect assist for the fourth goal.

With this win, Nigeria will face either Algeria or DR Congo in the quarterfinals.
