KATHMANDU: E-Drive Nepal, the first online taxi and motorcycle service in Lumbini Province, officially launched its operations in Nepalganj today.

The service was inaugurated by Nepalganj Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor, Prashant Bista.

The service has now expanded to both Banke and Bardiya districts.

Mayor Bisht highlighted the benefits of technology-driven services, stating, “Such innovative solutions will make urban transport more convenient while offering citizens a safe and reliable service.” He also praised the initiative for creating a working environment within the country.

Vijay Bhandari, Director of E-Drive Lumbini, shared that the service, which began 18 months ago in the Butwal–Bhairahawa region, has now expanded to Nepalganj. “As services become increasingly digital, integrating technology into taxi operations allows us to provide safe, convenient, and accessible transport through an online platform,” Bhandari said.

At the event, Rajkumar Gupta, Chairman of E-Drive Lumbini, emphasized the service’s goal of promoting self-employment and creating jobs for youth within Nepal. “Instead of compelling young people to seek work abroad, we aim to generate employment opportunities at home. In the future, we plan to expand E-Drive services nationwide,” he added.

E-Drive Lumbini has invested over Rs 7 crore to date.

Currently, it operates 110 taxis and more than 500 motorcycles in Rupandehi, and it has begun operations in Nepalganj with an initial fleet of 15 electric taxis.
