KATHMANDU: Home Secretary Gokarnamani Duwadi has warned that the growing menace of drug abuse is dragging the entire nation into darkness.

Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Thursday to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Secretary Duwadi stressed the urgent need for unified efforts to curb the crisis.

He highlighted the multidimensional impact of drug abuse, stating that it is fueling serious crimes in society. “The future of our nation’s youth—the pillars of tomorrow—is being ruined by drug addiction,” he said, adding that it is contributing to a rise in violence, murder, suicide, accidents, and cybercrime.

Calling for a collective response, Duwadi emphasized that the issue cannot be resolved through the efforts of a single agency. He urged strong collaboration among all three tiers of government, state institutions, NGOs, and civil society.

“Building a civilized society is our shared responsibility,” he said. “To fulfill this duty, we must unite in the fight against drug abuse.”
