KATHMANDU: The outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has surpassed 1,000 confirmed infections, according to the latest update from the country’s Ministry of Health.
The ministry’s Sunday epidemiological report confirmed a total of 1,003 infections so far, marking a continued rise in cases.
The death toll has reached 254, with a case fatality rate of 25.3 percent.
Health authorities said 365 patients are currently receiving treatment in isolation units or hospitals, while 100 people have recovered from the disease.
Contact tracing efforts remain ongoing in the three most affected provinces, with a reported 58 percent success rate in identifying individuals who had been exposed to confirmed cases.
Despite the rising numbers, officials stated that containment measures are actively in place.
These include intensified surveillance, expanded community awareness campaigns, strengthened patient management systems, and improved laboratory testing capacity aimed at controlling the spread of the virus.
