KATHMANDU: The withdrawal of candidates from the proportional representation closed list of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) continues, with Dr Araniko Pandey becoming the latest to step aside.

Citing recent political developments, Dr Pandey said he no longer saw justification in remaining on the party’s proportional list.

He made the announcement public through a Facebook post, stating that he had already informed the party leadership of his decision during the Central Committee meeting held the previous night.

“In light of the evolving political situation, I did not find it appropriate to continue on RSP’s proportional closed list. I communicated my decision to withdraw my name during the meeting,” Dr Pandey wrote.

With his withdrawal, the number of candidates opting out of RSP’s proportional list has reached six.

Earlier, mountaineer Arohi Tashi Sherpa, singer Trishala Gurung, journalist and actor Aasif Shah, businessman Sachin Dhakal—son of industrialist Chandra Dhakal—and academic Mahendra Lawoti had also announced their exit from the list.

The series of withdrawals comes amid ongoing internal discussions within the party over its electoral strategy and broader political direction.
