Digital transactions surge, QR payments lead the way

KATHMANDU: Nepal is witnessing a rapid rise in the use of digital financial transactions, with debit cards, mobile banking, and QR code payments all recording significant growth, according to data up to the end of Chaitra 2082.

Figures from Nepal Rastra Bank show that debit card users conducted around 10.3 million transactions worth Rs 80.09 billion during the period.

Mobile banking has emerged as the dominant digital payment channel, recording 74.4 million transactions totaling Rs 618.71 billion.

The central bank data highlights that mobile banking is now becoming a key driver of everyday financial activity in the country.

Similarly, QR code-based payment systems have also expanded rapidly.

A total of 54.6 million QR transactions were recorded, amounting to Rs 153.47 billion, reflecting strong adoption of cashless payment methods across the country.

The overall trend indicates a steady shift toward digital finance, with mobile platforms leading Nepal’s transition toward a more cashless economy.
