KATHMANDU: ‘Hamro Health’, a health-tech organization, has created digital health profiles for more than 22,000 students across over 45 schools in the Kathmandu Valley.

In addition, the organization has securely digitalized over 58,000 individual health record points.

The initiative was launched after schools faced difficulties managing student health records that were previously kept only on paper.

To address this, Hamro Health developed a technology-based student health recording system that systematically documents all health-related activities within schools.

According to Dr Prashant Bhattarai, founder of Hamro Health, government-run programs such as One School, One Nurse, mid-day meals, vaccination campaigns, deworming, and iron and vitamin distribution have been expanding.

However, the lack of an organized student health database has prevented authorities from accessing real-time data necessary for informed policy decisions.

“With this system, we are building a strong, evidence-based student health database that supports students, parents, schools, and municipalities in making better health decisions,” he said.

The digital profiles include data on vaccination records, iron and vitamin supplementation, deworming, school-based health check-ups by private service providers, and primary treatment services provided by school nurses.

Dr Bhattarai added that the core objective of the initiative is to maintain a long-term, reliable, and structured archive of all health-related activities conducted in schools.
