KATHMANDU: The final rites of legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra were completed on Tuesday in Mumbai, marking an emotional farewell to one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated icons. He was 89.

The funeral ceremony took place at a Pawan Hans Crematorium, where members of the Deol family, relatives, and several notable film personalities gathered to pay their last respects.

His sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol performed the main rituals according to Hindu customs, supported by other family members throughout the ceremony.

A large number of fans had assembled outside the venue, holding posters and photographs of the veteran actor. Security personnel were deployed to manage the crowd, as admirers expressed their grief and chanted Dharmendra’s name while offering floral tributes.

Several Bollywood figures, including directors, actors, and long-time colleagues, attended the rites to honor the star’s remarkable legacy.

Many recalled his humility, discipline, and the warmth he carried both on and off screen.

Dharmendra, often hailed as the “He-Man of Bollywood,” delivered memorable performances in classics such as Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Satyakam, and Phool Aur Patthar during a prolific career that spanned over six decades.

Beyond films, he also served as a Member of Parliament and remained respected for his simplicity and deep connection with fans.

Tributes have continued to pour in from political leaders, artists, and admirers across India and abroad, reflecting the widespread influence he held in Indian cinema and culture.

Dharmendra had been facing health issues since November 1 and had been in and out of Breach Candy Hospital.

After being discharged, he was recuperating at home but breathed his last on Nov 24.
