Dhakal reveals bold plan for March 5 elections
According to Dhakal, this proposal was prepared 5–7 months ago. He has reaffirmed his plan to contest against Deuba in Dadeldhura.
KATHMANDU: Youth activist Sagar Dhakal, who made headlines during the 2079 House of Representatives elections by challenging Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba in Dadeldhura, has unveiled an ambitious and aggressive political plan for the upcoming elections.
Targeting the polls scheduled for Falgun 21 (March 5), Dhakal has proposed a “grand design” to directly challenge the top leaders of Nepal’s three major parties in their strongholds.
Through social media, Dhakal shared what he calls a “small blueprint for a new beginning of the nation,” suggesting that Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah should contest against UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, he himself should face Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and Rastriya Swatantra Party President Rabi Lamichhane should take on Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in direct elections.
According to Dhakal, this proposal was prepared 5–7 months ago. He has reaffirmed his plan to contest against Deuba in Dadeldhura.
He has also urged Balen Shah to confront Oli in Jhapa-5, while Lamichhane should be ready to challenge Prachanda. “Balen is not someone who enjoys an easy game, so this seems possible,” Dhakal wrote. “Rabi had also expressed theoretical agreement on this matter while he was in both Bhairahawa and Nakkhu prisons.”
A Generational Face-Off
Dhakal framed the upcoming elections not merely as a political contest, but as a generational struggle between the “grandchildren versus grandparents.” “This election is the old versus the new, the corrupt unemployed versus the hardworking common people,” he said.
He argued that the senior leaders deserve rest and respect, stating, “This time, it’s not about forcing the grandparents to work hard, but about showing them care and letting them rest—not giving them suffering.”
