Dahal slams move to oust Deputy Speaker Rana
Dahal urged ruling coalition partners—the Nepali Congress and the UML—not to make the mistake of ousting the deputy speaker, noting that attempts to remove her have existed since the government was formed.
KATHMANDU: Pushpa Kamal Dahal, chair of the CPN (Maoist Centre), has condemned efforts to remove Deputy Speaker Indira Rana, calling the move “wrong.”
Speaking to journalists after a secretariat meeting at the party’s central office in Paris Danda, Dahal urged ruling coalition partners—the Nepali Congress and the UML—not to make the mistake of ousting the deputy speaker, noting that attempts to remove her have existed since the government was formed.
“From the beginning, the government has been making mistakes. Trying to remove a woman of indigenous, Janajati background, who serves society, cares for children, and has earned international recognition, is unacceptable,” Dahal said. He emphasized that there is no evidence implicating the deputy speaker in any wrongdoing, calling the allegations “baseless and fabricated.”
The controversy stems from claims that Rana had sent a letter on her official letterhead to the U.S. Embassy to facilitate a visa for travel to the United States.
Dahal stressed that prior attempts to remove her were halted due to opposition, and he reaffirmed his party’s stance against the current efforts.
