Dahal orders quick upgrade of Thankot–Chitlang road

KATHMANDU: Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Devendra Dahal has instructed authorities to expedite the upgrading of the Thankot–Chitlang road, emphasizing its vital role in enhancing connectivity and economic growth.

Following an inspection of the road today, Minister Dahal highlighted that the Thankot–Chitlang section serves as a shorter route linking Kathmandu and will significantly contribute to economic development and prosperity.

He pointed out that the road will facilitate the transport of agricultural products from Makwanpur to Kathmandu and promote the development of the region’s tourism sector.

Minister Dahal urged the Department of Roads to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe and eliminate any delays in execution. He stressed that infrastructure projects must directly improve citizens’ livelihoods and expressed confidence that the road’s timely completion will foster economic progress.

Mahesh Bartola, Chief Spokesperson of the CPN (UML), underscored the road’s importance not only for residents of Makwanpur and Kathmandu but also as a crucial link connecting eastern Nepal, Bagmati, Madhesh, and Lumbini regions.

He called for the swift and uninterrupted completion of this multipurpose road to benefit the local population and regional economy.

Dr. Vijay Jaisi, Director General of the Department of Roads, assured full commitment to accelerating construction without any delays.

According to Shubharaj Neupane, Chief of the Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office in Kathmandu, the tender process for the road’s upgrading has already commenced.

Narayan Datt Bhandari, Chief of the Kathmandu Road Division, stated that the project is being implemented in two packages, covering approximately 8.5 kilometers toward Kathmandu.

The inspection was also attended by Prime Minister’s Economic Advisor Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada and Engineer Gajendra Thapaliya, President of an intellectual organization.
