Curfews imposed in Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, and Kathmandu amid Gen Z protests
In Bhaktapur, Chief District Officer Namaraj Ghimire issued the curfew under clause 6(A) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, effective from 8:30 am until further notice.
KATHMANDU: The District Administration Offices of Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, and Kathmandu have imposed curfews in multiple areas from today to curb unrest and maintain law and order.
In Bhaktapur, Chief District Officer Namaraj Ghimire issued the curfew under clause 6(A) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, effective from 8:30 am until further notice. The curfew affects parts of Bhaktapur Municipality, Changunarayan Municipality, and Suryabinayak Municipality, including Jadibuti, Radheradhe, Balkot, Nikosera, Pepsikola, and 200 meters along Araniko Highway from Jadibuti to Sanga. All movements, gatherings, rallies, demonstrations, meetings, and picketing are strictly prohibited.
In Lalitpur, CDO Suman Ghimire announced a curfew from 7:00 am to midnight in wards 2, 4, 9, 18, and 25 of Lalitpur Metropolitan City. Areas under restriction include Bhainsepati, Sanepa, CG Housing to Chobhar gorge, Gayatri Petrol Pump to Bishnudevi Mandir, Indrayani Mandir to Manmohan Park, Manohara river corridor, Chyasal stadium, and Malpokhari.
In Kathmandu, CDO Chhabilal Rijal imposed a curfew from 8:30 am until further notice along the Ring Road, covering Balkumari bridge to Koteshwor Chowk, Sinamangal, Gaushala, Chabhil, Narayangopal Chowk, Gongabu, Balaju, Swyambhu, Kalanki, and the Bagmati river bridge. The curfew follows demonstrations by ‘Gen Z’ groups that turned violent.
Authorities have urged citizens to comply with the orders and avoid all forms of public gatherings to ensure safety.
