KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office of Bara has imposed a curfew in Simara following escalating tensions between UML and Gen Z activists.
The clashes erupted as preparations were underway for the arrival of UML leader Mahesh Basnet, with members of the UML Youth Association and Gen Z workers involved in a confrontation.
The situation intensified, prompting the administration to enforce an immediate curfew, according to Information Officer Chhabi Raman Bhattarai.
The curfew covers areas within 500 meters on either side of the Gandak Canal–Pathlaiya Road stretch, as well as a 500-meter radius around Simara Airport.
It will remain in effect from 12:30 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday.
The UML Youth Association had planned a Madhesh Province-level event in Parwanipur, Bara, in anticipation of Basnet and other leaders attending.
Gen Z members actively opposed the event, leading to clashes near Simara Airport that escalated the already tense situation.
