Cooperative victims stage semi-nude protest in Kathmandu (photos)

KATHMANDU: Victims of cooperative fraud staged a semi-nude protest at Maitighar Mandala on Sunday, demanding the return of their savings.

The demonstrators said they were compelled to take such an extreme step after repeated peaceful protests failed to bring justice.

They accused the government of not taking effective action to recover their deposits from troubled cooperatives.

Previously, women victims had also staged semi-nude protests to draw attention to their plight.

Protesters claimed the government’s inability to ensure the return of their savings had left them with no other option.

They have demanded that the government auction off the assets of the defaulting cooperatives and return the saved funds to the victims.
