Cooperative victims continue their protest

KATHMANDU: Victims of troubled cooperatives have continued their protest in Budhanagar since Mangsir 5, demanding the return of their savings and action against those responsible for embezzlement.
Rajkumar Dhakal, a cooperative victim from Pashupati Cooperative in Banepa, said he lost Rs 1.8 million, which he had saved for his children’s education.
He stated that the cooperative has been closed for the past three years and that the management absconded, leaving savers unpaid.
Dhakal added that in the past, they had staged protests for 108 days at Ratna Park and 63 days at Tinkune.
Despite repeated negotiations with the government, their demands have not been met.
Some cooperative victims have reportedly suffered from depression due to the prolonged financial loss. Dhakal himself is taking medication for depression.
Protesters carried placards with slogans such as “Give justice to cooperative victims,” “Return all savings of depositors,” “The government is responsible for cooperative losses,” and “Punish employees involved in political brokerage and corruption.”
Dhakal urged the government to take responsibility for refunding victims’ savings, emphasizing that a corruption-free Nepal requires decisive action.
