KATHMANDU: The registration of delegates for the Nepali Congress (NC) second special convention began at 8:15 a.m. today, with over 49 percent of delegates having already completed the process.

According to organizers, 2,340 out of a total of 4,743 delegates nationwide have registered so far, accounting for 49.34 percent.

Separate registration desks have been set up for all seven provinces, and delegates are registering actively at stalls near the main gate of Bhrikutimandap.

Delegates were requested to bring an identification document, one passport-sized photograph, and a registration fee of Rs 1,000.

On Oct 15, 54.58 percent of delegates had demanded a special convention.

Under Article 17(2) of the NC statute, if 40 percent of delegates request a special convention, it must be convened within three months.

Citing neglect of institutional matters, NC General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwaprakhash Sharma have spearheaded this two-day special convention, aimed at rejuvenating the party.
