KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress has finalized its candidates for the upcoming National Assembly elections following prolonged negotiations between the ruling alliance and major opposition parties.

Under the new power-sharing agreement, the three parties have divided the vacant seats: Nepali Congress will field candidates for nine seats, CPN-UML for eight, and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal for one.

The party has also announced its provincial allocation of candidates as per the agreement, marking the conclusion of the seat-sharing talks.

Who is Congress’s choice in terms of provinces?

CPN-UML, which is part of the seat-sharing agreement, is reported to have already finalized its candidates for all provinces except Madhesh Province.

Meanwhile, the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, allocated one seat under the deal, is reportedly preparing to nominate senior leader Mahanta Thakur to the National Assembly, sources say.
