KATHMANDU: Government spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel held separate talks with key political leaders, including CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, ahead of the upcoming elections.

On Friday morning, Minister Kharel visited Oli’s private residence in Gundu, Bhaktapur, for a scheduled meeting.

Earlier, he had met Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba at his residence in Maharajgunj.

On the same day, Kharel is also scheduled to meet CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Khumaltar.

According to the Ministry’s Secretariat, the discussions focused on preparations for the upcoming elections, creating a conducive election environment, and promoting political consensus.

The government aims to reaffirm its commitment to conducting free, fair, and fearless elections by engaging in separate consultations with the leaders of the three major parties.

Reports indicate that the meeting also touched upon the travel restrictions imposed on Oli by the Gen Z movement investigation commission outside the Kathmandu Valley.

Earlier, government officials’ inspection of UML’s central office in Chyasal had suggested a flexible approach toward the party’s participation in the elections.

The CPN-UML has expressed willingness to participate once a conducive electoral environment is ensured.

The government views these meetings as part of a broader effort to foster national consensus, reduce political tension, and advance the election process smoothly.
