Chitra Bahadur KC blames leaders for democratic decline
KC criticized the parliament’s inability to function effectively, calling it a matter of grave concern.
KATHMANDU: Rastriya Janamorcha Chair and Member of Parliament Chitra Bahadur KC has said that ongoing attacks on democracy and republicanism are the result of leaders’ own weaknesses and failures.
Speaking in Sunday’s House of Representatives meeting, KC criticized the parliament’s inability to function effectively, calling it a matter of grave concern. He warned that lawmakers and leaders are increasingly becoming pawns of those in power.
“If we continue to walk at the command of those in power, our dignity will be shattered,” he said. “With the way we are currently running parliament, can democracy and republicanism truly survive?”
KC expressed alarm over the growing sense of hopelessness among the younger generation, which he attributed to a flawed education system. “We have already sold off hundreds of thousands of youth,” he said. “Even if no transaction occurs, accepting money and sending them abroad is still a form of selling.”
Reiterating his longstanding opposition to federalism, KC stated it was never introduced for the country’s progress or public welfare. He supported fellow MP Amresh Kumar Singh’s recent comments questioning federalism, saying, “I feared this from the beginning—that our nation might eventually dissolve into something else.”
He also cautioned that blind pursuit of power, wealth, and influence could lead the country to ruin. “Chasing after power and property will only bring disaster,” he warned. “It’s now essential to take our dignity and national pride seriously.”
