KATHMANDU: Chelsea endured another setback in the English Premier League, falling 3–0 to Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday, extending their winless run.

Brighton dominated from the outset and took the lead as early as the third minute.

A corner from Pascal Groß led to a defensive error, allowing Ferdi Kadioglu to fire home a low volley.

The hosts maintained relentless pressure throughout the match.

Jan Paul van Hecke’s header was denied by goalkeeper Robert Sánchez, while another effort from Jack Hinshelwood was cleared off the line.

Georginio Rutter also came close but missed the target.

Chelsea struggled to create chances, managing just one shot on goal in the first half through Trevoh Chalobah, which was comfortably saved.

Brighton doubled their lead in the 56th minute when Hinshelwood found the net from a precise pass by Rutter.

Late opportunities for Chelsea’s Alejandro Garnacho and Marc Guiu went begging as both missed the target.

In stoppage time, Brighton sealed the victory with a third goal. Maxim De Cuyper set up Danny Welbeck, who calmly finished to register his 13th goal of the season.

The defeat marks Chelsea’s fifth consecutive league loss without scoring—a run not seen since 1912—deepening their struggles.

With this result, Brighton climb to sixth place with 50 points, overtaking Chelsea, who remain on 48 points.

Chelsea’s hopes of securing a UEFA Champions League spot have now taken a significant hit.
