With this development, a new coalition between the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML) has paved the way for Indra Bahadur Baniya to become the next Chief Minister.
After announcing his resignation at a press conference Sunday evening, Lama left for Kathmandu.
He has entrusted his personal secretary, Chatrabahadur Lama, to submit the resignation letter to the Province Chief’s office once it reopens.
The Province Chief, Deepak Prasad Devkota—who was discharged from hospital Sunday evening—is expected to arrive in Hetauda today.
Once Lama’s resignation is formally registered, Chief Devkota will, under Article 168(2) of the Constitution, invite the new coalition to form the government.
The Congress-UML alliance, having secured a majority, is fully prepared to nominate Indra Bahadur Baniya, who is also the leader of the Congress parliamentary party, as the new Chief Minister.
