KATHMANDU: The government of Nepal has appointed Chandrakuber Khapung as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The decision was made at a cabinet meeting on Friday and will take effect from Bhadra 19. A government minister confirmed Khapung’s appointment following the meeting.
Current IGP Deepak Thapa is set to retire on Bhadra 18 at midnight.
Following Thapa’s retirement, the cabinet chose Khapung to lead the police force based on seniority and performance evaluations.
Khapung has previously held various positions within the police organization.
As the new IGP, he will oversee security management, organizational reforms, and crime control in Nepal.
