KATHMANDU: Nepal’s leading private airline, Buddha Air, is set to resume direct flights between Kathmandu and Kolkata from Oct 19, nearly three years after the service was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Buddha Air will operate the route with its ATR-72 aircraft, offering three weekly flights on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

The return flight from Kolkata will depart at 9:20 a.m. local time, with a flight duration of around 1 hour and 35 minutes.

Currently, Buddha Air remains the only Nepali carrier providing direct service to Kolkata, as no other airline operates on this route.

Alongside the resumption of flights, the airline will promote Buddha Holidays travel packages, focusing on religious and cultural tourism between Nepal and India.

Packages for Nepali travelers include trips to Jagannath Puri, Sundarbans, and Gangasagar, while Indian tourists visiting Nepal will be offered customized cultural and religious tours.

According to the airline, the relaunch aims to boost tourism and strengthen cross-border connectivity for business, work, and family travel.

Buddha Air already operates regular flights to Varanasi on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, in addition to more than 60 daily domestic flights within Nepal.

The airline first launched Kathmandu–Kolkata flights on Baisakh 2, 2076, but suspended the service on Mangsir 16, 2077, due to the pandemic.

Now, nearly three years later, the route is set to take off once again.
