KATHMANDU: A team including Major General Gerald M. Strickland of the British Army has presented the annual report of the Gurkha Brigade to President Ram Chandra Paudel.

Speaking on the occasion, President Paudel highlighted the long-standing cooperation between Nepal and the United Kingdom on development, human welfare, and peace at international forums.

He emphasized that both nations share a common vision for global peace through United Nations peacekeeping missions.

Acknowledging the centuries-old close ties between the two countries, the President expressed gratitude to the United Kingdom for its continued support in Nepal’s development, describing the UK as an important development partner.

President Paudel also praised the British Gurkhas for strengthening bilateral relations through their commendable service and noted that the presence of Nepalis in the UK has further reinforced people-to-people connections between the two nations.

He added that certain legitimate concerns raised by former British Gurkhas are being discussed at diplomatic levels and expressed hope that they would be resolved soon through bilateral mechanisms.

The President thanked the UK government for submitting the Gurkha Brigade’s 2025 annual report and said that relevant authorities in Nepal would study the report carefully.

Major General Strickland lauded the British Gurkha soldiers for their frontline service and said that he always reminds the young recruits that “you are sons and daughters of Nepal.” He also noted that the British people hold the Gurkha Nepalis in high regard and respect.
