KATHMANDU: Brazil has officially submitted a bid to host the FIFA Club World Cup in 2029, the country’s football federation (CBF) announced.

The proposal was presented to FIFA President Gianni Infantino during his visit to Rio de Janeiro.

Infantino’s trip primarily focused on preparations for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, which is scheduled to take place across eight Brazilian cities.

Meanwhile, FIFA has been actively seeking to bring its expanded club competition to South America’s largest football market.

For the 2025 edition, FIFA bypassed the traditional bidding process and awarded hosting rights to the United States for the 32-team tournament.

However, the selection criteria for the 2029 Club World Cup have yet to be clarified.

CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues said discussions on the matter are ongoing. He added that he had already discussed the possibility with Infantino and expressed optimism: “If it is God’s will, Brazil will host the 2029 Club World Cup.”

One Brazilian club has already secured a spot in the 2029 tournament.

Flamengo earned qualification by winning the 2025 Copa Libertadores.
