Their bodies were airlifted to Samagaun by helicopter.
KATHMANDU: The bodies of two Italian climbers, 67-year-old Stefano Farinato and 37-year-old Alessandro Gaputo, have been recovered from Pangbari Himal, five days after they went missing, police said.
Both climbers were found buried under snow at the mountain’s first camp, according to Rajkumar Shrestha, spokesperson of the Gorkha District Police Office.
Their bodies were airlifted to Samagaun by helicopter.
The climbers had become stranded along with three other Italians and a Nepali guide while attempting to descend from the mountain following heavy snowfall last Wednesday.
Farinato and Gaputo were unable to continue their ascent and were trapped by the snowstorm.
Earlier, 65-year-old Italian climber Velter Parlino, along with Nepali guides Pemba Renji Sherpa, Dawa Chhiri Sherpa, and Pasang Tamang, were rescued by helicopter and sent to Kathmandu for treatment.
