Bipin Joshi’s family returns to Kathmandu; repatriation of body underway
While the family was in the United States, Hamas announced Bipin’s death and handed over his body to Israeli authorities.
KATHMANDU: The mother and sister of Nepali youth Bipin Joshi, who was taken hostage and later killed during the Israel-Hamas conflict, arrived in Kathmandu this morning.
Padma Joshi and her daughter Pushpa Joshi landed at Tribhuvan International Airport via Qatar Airways after traveling through Israel and the United States. Their journey aimed to locate Vipin and exert international pressure for his safe release.
While the family was in the United States, Hamas announced Bipin’s death and handed over his body to Israeli authorities.
The process to repatriate his remains to Nepal is now underway, with the government actively facilitating the arrangements.
The Israeli government had coordinated all travel logistics for Vipin’s family between the U.S., Israel, and Nepal.
Bipin, along with 16 other Nepali students, had been in Israel under the ‘Learn and Earn’ program near the Gaza border when Hamas launched an attack two years ago.
The assault claimed the lives of ten Nepali students, while Bipin was taken hostage.
After years of uncertainty, the news of Bipin’s death has left his family and the nation in shock.
His body is expected to be brought back to Nepal, where preparations are being made for a state-honored funeral.
