Beheaded forest guard’s head found
According to Saroj Rai, spokesperson of the Sarlahi District Police Office, Mahato’s head was found about 100 meters from the crime scene this afternoon.
KATHMANDU: The head of a forestry worker, Ramishwar Mahato, who was brutally murdered in Ishwarpur, Sarlahi, was recovered today, nearly a day after his body was found without a head.
Mahato, employed as a forest guard at the Sagarnath Forest Project in Ishwarpur Municipality, was killed on Saturday when unknown assailants allegedly beheaded him.
According to Saroj Rai, spokesperson of the Sarlahi District Police Office, Mahato’s head was found about 100 meters from the crime scene this afternoon.
A special police investigation team from Lalgafh, Dhanusha, accompanied by two sniffer dogs, had reached to investigate the murder.
Police have arrested one suspect in connection with the killing, though the identity of the individual has not been released.
Local officials said Mahato had gone to the forest early Saturday morning after hearing the sound of trees being cut. When he did not return home for several hours, his family began searching for him.
The gruesome murder has left the local community in Ishwarpur Municipality Ward No. 2 deeply shaken, according to Ward Chair Surendra Bahadur Karki.
Police continue to investigate the case.
