KATHMANDU: CPN-UML leader Mahesh Basnet has alleged that members of the Nepali Congress-affiliated Nepal Student Union (NSU) attacked him during an event in Biratnagar on Sunday.

Basnet was splashed with red colour earlier today.

He claimed that those involved were Sanjog Gautam, the NSU unit Chair at Mahendra Morang Campus, and Arpit Kunwar, a member of the same campus unit.

“In Biratnagar, the individuals who attacked me are NSU Mahendra Morang Campus unit president Sanjog Gautam and member Arpit Kunwar,” Basnet said.

He further stated that a similar incident at RR College earlier had been carried out by a person wearing a black jacket, whom he identified as the ward chair of Bethanchowk from CPN (Unified Socialist).

Basnet also linked other recent disturbances — including arson at government and private properties in Bara Simara, and the clash at former minister Krishna Kumar Shrestha’s residence — to individuals associated with Maoist cadres and a group he referred to as “Tibetan Original Blood.”

He claimed that these incidents show a wider infiltration under the name of ‘Gen Z’, urging political parties and citizens to remain alert and aware.
