Baskota loses secretary post but wins open central committee seat

KATHAMDNU: At the 11th National Convention of the CPN (UML), leader Gokul Baskota narrowly lost the race for the secretary position but secured a seat as an open central committee member.

According to party rules, candidates for officebearer positions automatically contest for central committee membership.

Baskota, who lost the secretary post by a slim margin of 78 votes, won the open central committee seat with 1,195 votes.

A former Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Baskota is considered one of the influential leaders of the party. Long active under the leadership of Chair KP Sharma Oli, he had entered the convention with ambitions for a top party positio
