Barcelona return to La Liga summit with 3-0 win over Real Oviedo

KATHMANDU: Barcelona reclaimed the top spot in La Liga after a commanding 3-0 victory over Real Oviedo at Camp Nou.

The first half saw the visitors hold firm, frustrating Hansie Flick’s side and leaving Barcelona searching for openings.

Only during stoppage time did notable chances emerge, with Joan Garcia denying a powerful strike from Elias Cheira and Aaron Escandel saving Rafinha’s follow-up attempt.

Barcelona turned up the pressure after the break. In the 51st minute, Dani Olmo opened the scoring, giving the hosts the lead.

Six minutes later, Rafinha capitalized on a poor backpass from David Costas, advancing past Escandel to double the advantage.

The victory was sealed in the 73rd minute when Lamin Yamal scored a brilliant overhead kick, securing all three points.

The win allowed Barcelona to overtake Real Madrid, who had briefly reached the top the previous day, by a single point.

With 52 points from 21 games, Barcelona look well-placed at the summit as the season enters its crucial phase.

Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid defeated Mallorca 3-0 in their round of fixtures.
