KATHMANDU: FC Barcelona strengthened their Spanish La Liga title defense with a convincing 2–0 win over Getafe CF.
Goals from Fermín López and Marcus Rashford secured all three points for the Catalan side, who capitalized on Real Madrid CF’s earlier 1–1 draw against Real Betis.
The result extends Barcelona’s lead at the top to 11 points over their closest rivals.
Barcelona broke the deadlock just before halftime when Fermín López controlled a precise pass from Pedri and calmly rounded goalkeeper David Soria to score.
Getafe showed resilience after the break, applying defensive pressure and limiting clear chances. Dani Olmo came close to doubling the lead, but his effort was denied by Soria.
The second goal arrived in the 74th minute through a swift counterattack. Robert Lewandowski initiated the move, setting up substitute Marcus Rashford, who finished with ease to seal the victory.
Barcelona maintained control until the final whistle, despite a late missed opportunity from Marc Casadó in stoppage time.
The match also marked a milestone for Lewandowski, who reached 100 goal contributions in La Liga (81 goals and 19 assists), underlining his continued importance in Barcelona’s title push.
