Baniya claims majority to form Bagmati Province govt
The claim follows the constitutional provision under Article 168 (2), which mandates the appointment of the member who commands a majority as Chief Minister.
KATHMANDU: Indrabahadur Baniya, leader of the Congress parliamentary party, has submitted a claim to form the new government in Bagmati Province.
The claim was jointly presented by Congress and UML, proposing Baniya as the Chief Minister candidate.
In the claim submitted to the Province Chief on the 19th, it was stated that out of the 110-member provincial assembly, 64 members support the alliance — 37 from Congress and 27 from UML.
The claim follows the constitutional provision under Article 168 (2), which mandates the appointment of the member who commands a majority as Chief Minister.
The claim document was signed by Indrabahadur Baniya, leader of the Congress parliamentary party, and Jagannath Thapa, leader of the UML parliamentary party.
The Office of the Province Chief had issued a statement on Monday, calling for claims to form the government by Tuesday, 2 PM, as per Article 168 (2) of the Constitution.
The Province Chief’s office is preparing to appoint the Chief Minister at 3 PM on Tuesday, followed by the oath-taking ceremony after 4 PM.
