KATHMANDU: In the recently concluded general election in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Tarique Rahman, secured a clear majority by winning 209 out of 299 seats in parliament.
According to details released by the Senior Secretary of the Bangladesh Election Commission, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami finished second with 68 seats, while the remaining 20 seats were won by independent candidates and smaller parties.
Voter turnout in the election stood at 59.44 percent.
The newly elected government is expected to take over power before Feb 19, ahead of Ramadan.
